James R. Hasselback is on the faculty at Louisiana State University. He has also taught full-time at Lake Superior State College, Eastern Michigan University, the University of Florida, Texas A&M University, Florida State University, University of West Florida, Clarion University, and Florida Southern College. A member of the American Accounting Association and the American Taxation Association, he has published over 150 papers in professional and academic journals, including The Accounting Review, The Tax Advisor, Financial Management, Journal of Real Estate Taxation, and the American Business Law Journal.
Jim Hasselback has presented papers at numerous national and regional professional meetings, and served as chairman of tax sessions at professional conferences. He regularly presents continuing education seminars for Certified Public Accountants, Enrolled Agents, and Accountants. He is co-author on a two-volume introductory taxation series published by Commerce Clearing House, also serving as the technical editor. Jim teams up with Gleim Publications to produce a three-volume Enrolled Agent Review Course, an Annual Filing Season Review Course, Tax Exam Questions and Explanations, and over 30 CPE courses.

Business casualty and theft losses are taken as a business deduction. Casualty losses are an itemized deduction for individuals. There are limitations on the deductible amount for individuals.
